Or as Steph calls it "Okie Nomi Yummy"

Packet of Okonomiyaki Batter
300ml Water
2 Eggs Beaten
1/4 cabbage shredded
2 cups ground pork, cooked
1 cup of prawns cooked

1 bunch of Chopped Bok Choy
1 bag of bean sprouts

1. Mix up the batter, pour a generous spoonful of the batter on a hot frying pan. Let it sizzle until the base is golden and crisp. Lift it off the hot pan. Add the the chopped veggies to the pan and flip the pancake on the veggies. Put a lid on and steam/cook until done!

Then decorate!!! Mayo zigzag one way, and BBQ Sauce zigzag the otherway. Then sprinkled with shaved Bonito Flakes and watch them wriggle!!!

Very filling and rather low carb! Ed only had one! which is kinda unusual, cos he's got hollow legs!

If you aren't game on cooking it... you can make a game the cooking of it!
hehehe *groan*

The Baby Popping Starts

Last night we were delighted to see that Michael and Winnie our friends in HK have had their first child! Named Andrew, he's healthy 3.2kg and from the photos, he's a pure cutesy!

*gush* makes you want to have one of your own.... ALMOST

Today, on the bus to work, a poor mother had a terrible two, who was crying, not because he was in distress, pain or discomfort, but because HE COULDNT PUT HIS SOCKS BACK IN HIS DRAWER!!! Good Grief! Mum offered to look after them, but that wasn't good enough for Mr Howler. Bascially he was yelling and teary because he could!

I felt sorry for his sister who would have been 5 or 6, quiet as can be and very obidient, its hard to take mum's applause with happiness when your little brother is screaming his head off.

Thank God MP3's have a drown out screaming kid volume!

On another note, the mother was trying to reason with the child... I don't think at that age you can reason. I think from the age of 6 onwards you can use basic reasoning, but before then, you'll just talk yourself blue in the face. What are your thoughts?

POST: Dinh and Gregor have just txt me and they are now the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl! Welcome to the world Little Jasmine!!!

Its all happening!!!

Myers Hobart Burns Down

Oh dear.

On Saturday the Myers Building in Hobart burnt down. Some people have posted their videos on Youtube, and I have to say the footage theyre showing on TV doesnt even half cover the intensity of the fire.

For non-Hobartians, Myers is one of the staples of shopping in Hobart. It would be like ripping Pitt Street mall out of Sydney or Collins Street out of Melbourne. It just wont be the same.

I have to say even though its a building I am saddened by the loss, I have fond memories of the place.
  • The men sitting on the stairs waiting for their wives and girlfriends who were attacking the piles of undies and bras in the Basement Floor.
  • Playing Hide and Seek with Ed in the Ladies fashion
  • The canteen at the top floor, I think I fell in love with baby carrots there
  • I bought my very first wallet at the handbag section on ground floor in Myers
  • Cutting through Myers to get to Cat and Fiddle
  • The Bridal registery
  • Family portirats were done on 2nd floor Myers
  • The Pink (But always clean) toliets on the top floor
But realistically, the building was in dire need of a refurb. Built in 1839, all the renos had turned it into a bit of a rabbit warren, I always got confused with the alleyways between the Liverpool and the Murray Building, I was never sure which floor i would end up on.

Hey! Maybe Westfield should move in!

Dave Grohl on Britney Spears...

Sad but true...
Asked what he thought of Spears, Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl said: "You know those things that you put batteries in and they just vacuum the floor without anyone touching them? That's what I think of Britney Spears."
A nicely thrown punch

Far out! Brussels Sprout!

I've grown up with an imaginary hate for this vegetable... Never did get to eat it as a kid... "Far out Brussels Sprout" was the closest i got to this vegetable and Dad never used it in his cooking. (Well it isn't Chinese...)

Actually i had tried them. Once... back in the days of uni where the canteen ladies had boiled the poor blighters to death... They were totally disgusting. But a ingredient is only as good as its chef so I thought I would give them a try for dinner tonight...

Hrm... Not bad!

Here's my recipe, the sprouts still had a bite to them, and they don't have the sweetness of normal cabbage. I found the dish only slightly bitter, but i think it added to the dish rather than subtracted from it.

Brussels Sprouts The Nice Way
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced or chopped
  • 2 rashers of bacon, chopped
  • Salt and pepper
  • Good knob of butter
  • 1/2 kg of Brussels sprouts.

Half the sprouts and boil and blanch in a pot of boiling water. Drain well

Add a little oil to the pot, add the garlic, stir until fragrant.
Add the bacon stir until you're drooling (or browning)
Toss in the butter and Brussels sprouts
Stir about and put a lid on and turn it to medium.

NOTE: Don’t let it overcook! You are just reheating the sprouts.Serve with your other 2 veg and meat or have it as another dish along with the mapo tofu and lap cheung for dinner!

Picking the Sprouts.
I remember some lady telling me the best way to pick a cabbage (of any sort) is to gently press the top of the cabbage. If it gives way, then it not healthy, but if the leaves are tightly packed and when pressed the top doesn't collapse then its a good one and you should grab it.

Yum Cha

I think we emptied the Prawn Dumpling and Sui Mai Trolley.

A total of 14 people joined us at Marigold for Yumcha on Saturday... Jen and I cracked up over the pork ribs. (I had once stuffed up my mandarin and declared to our table that the lady didn't have any "Butt"("Pei Gu" instead of "Pai Gu"))

Then later on the dedicated joined us at our house for a bit of Singstar. The new one is themed the 90's and its pretty good! The song list is below.
